Eagle Rock Analytics is partnering with AECOM to help Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) prepare for California’s changing climate. As one of the nation’s largest public utilities serving over 1.5 million residents, SMUD is working to ensure reliable power delivery across its diverse service and generation territory – from Sacramento’s urban core to the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Our team is applying cutting-edge climate science to understand how rising temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and increasing wildfire risks could affect SMUD’s infrastructure and operations. Using the latest generation of climate models from California’s Fifth Climate Assessment, we’re developing detailed projections that will help SMUD identify and prepare for future challenges. To support the future of renewable energy generation in California, this project includes a focus on measuring climate impacts on wind and hydropower generation potential.
With a commitment to co-production and capacity building, Eagle Rock Analytics is engaging with SMUD to provide guidance on utilizing the best available science and integrating climate data into a broader range of planning workflows through the Cal-Adapt platform.
