Founded in 2014, Eagle Rock Analytics is an innovator, bringing cutting-edge climate consulting and cloud-based data management practices to multiple State of California agencies, focusing on geospatial data of all types. Presently, ERA employs eight scientists, developers, and project managers. Our organization has 10+ years of experience turning atmospheric and climate science data into actionable data. We do so by creating tools and analytics, managing and visualizing data, and supporting users to assess weather and climate risk vulnerability. ERA develops decision-making support tools (specifically those enabling decision-making with novel localized climate data for California) and broad, scientifically informed, stakeholder-focused analytical tools (such as tools characterizing suitability for installation of weather stations). ERA manages spatial data (big and small) and provides access to this information through websites, cloud-based platforms, and programmatically, generating Python libraries, AWS S3 buckets, and JupyterHub notebooks. The company’s services support vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning by providing operationally relevant metrics based on the best available science and developed in close collaboration with stakeholders and clients.
Eagle Rock Analytics is proud to partner with and work for state agencies, non-profits, utilities, and universities on projects large and small. ERA is proudly headquartered in Northern California, within Sacramento, in the heart of California’s verdant Central Valley.
Eagle Rock Analytics focuses on coming up with actionable outcomes that translate large and complex environmental data into understandable and usable products that directly address client and stakeholder needs.
Our secret sauce is empathy. Coupled with active listening, we deeply engage with clients and stakeholders to understand what problems need solving, then develop scientific and analytic approaches to solve the problems. Being empathetic as a team naturally leads to an inclusive and welcoming workplace.

We prioritize projects that serve the public good, and advance scientific knowledge and understanding. We do not seek profit on projects with state, federal and non-profit entities, allowing us to devote more resources towards staff time and respect limited funding for critical science. Not seeking profit on public facing projects enables us to provide benefits to employees leading to a dignified quality of life.
We are an open book when working for our clients – our project management style is transparency. Where it’s practical to do so – we favor open source solutions, and do our best to contribute to open source programming and open data efforts.
Eagle Rock Analytics is led by climate scientist and data analyst Owen Doherty, PhD. Dr. Doherty received his bachelor of science degree from Cornell University in 2003 and his doctorate in marine and atmospheric sciences from Stony Brook University in 2012. Dr. Doherty is an experienced project manager with scientific expertise in global climate and is comfortable analyzing a wide range of data, from biochemical data to climate models to remote sensing data.
Mark attended the University of Rochester before transitioning into scientific data management. Mr. Koenig has successfully guided large technical projects for private and governmental entities, and focuses on helping his team overcome challenges and avoiding project roadblocks. Mark's curiosity about science and the environment has led to his current role addressing climate through technology.
Dr. McClenny joined Eagle Rock Analytics in September of 2021. Dr. McClenny received her Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from UC Davis in March of 2021, where she studied atmospheric river response to climate variability.
Dr. Ford joined Eagle Rock in May 2022. Dr. Ford is a broadly trained interdisciplinary earth scientist, with degrees in Meteorology, Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, and Geography. Her research focuses on air-sea interactions, and most recently identified critical climate change impacts resulting from sea ice loss.
